How we collect and use your details

Collection Notice

Last updated: 25 August 2026

The short version: we collect a few details about you and your situation so we can introduce you to one licensed financial adviser, who will contact you about life insurance. We are paid a referral fee by that adviser. You can ask us to delete your details at any time.

1.Who is collecting your information

Cover Captain is a business of [LEGAL ENTITY NAME] (ABN [ABN]) (we, us, our). You can reach us at [PRIVACY EMAIL].

We are not an insurer, and we do not provide financial product advice. We are a referral service.

2.What we collect

When you complete our online check, we collect:

WhatWhy we need it
Your first and last nameSo the adviser knows who they are speaking to
Your mobile number and email addressTo verify your number and to make the introduction
Your state of residenceTo match you with an adviser licensed to help you
Your date of birth and genderThese affect eligibility and what cover would cost
Whether you have used nicotine in the last 12 monthsThis is a standard insurer rating question
The level of cover you are interested in, and your timeframeSo the adviser can prepare before calling you
Technical details — IP address, browser, the page you came from, and the date and time you consentedTo record that you consented, and to prevent fraud and spam

About the nicotine question. Your answer is health information, which Australian privacy law treats as “sensitive information” and protects more strictly than an ordinary detail like your name. We only collect it with your consent, we only collect it because insurers require it, and we only disclose it to the adviser we introduce you to. You do not have to answer — but without it we cannot complete the check.

3.Why we collect it

We collect this information to introduce you to a licensed financial adviser who can discuss life insurance with you, and to keep a record that you asked us to do so.

4.Who we give it to

We do not sell your information to a panel of companies, and we do not pass it to anyone unrelated to your enquiry.

5.Overseas

Some of our service providers store or process information outside Australia, including in the United States. More detail is in our Privacy Policy.

6.Being contacted

When you submit the form you are asking us to introduce you to an adviser, and asking that adviser to contact you by phone, SMS and email about life insurance and related cover. You can withdraw that request at any time by emailing [PRIVACY EMAIL], and you can unsubscribe from our emails using the link in any message.

7.If you would rather not provide it

You do not have to give us any of this. If you do not, we will not be able to complete the check or make the introduction.

8.Access, correction and complaints

You can ask to see the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. You can also complain if you think we have mishandled it. Email [PRIVACY EMAIL]. Our full process is set out in our Privacy Policy.
